Lions Salmon BBQ - Sun Sep 4th


The Mayne Island Lions Club will hold its annual Salmon Barbecue on Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Dinner Bay Park.

Choice of Salmon or Chicken!  There will be a Bingo Tent, and a Beer and Wine Tent, and the 222 Draw, with $1,600.00 in cash prizes, will give some lucky people a chance to go home richer than they came.

Entertainment by Bob Connolly on the new Peter Archer stage.

MIYF Fundraiser - Will Millar & Guests - Sat Aug 20


Will Millar & Chuck McCandless are returning to Mayne Island to help raise funds for Mayne Island Youth Fitness

Last year's show was a sell-out and a roaring success. This year they will also be joined by Irish performer Mary Murphy and guitarist Paul Kiem. This is Mayne Island Youth Fitness' main fundraiser for the year.  

The Show is at the Mayne Island Community Centre.
Doors open at 6:30. Show starts just after 7pm. 
Tickets $25 for adults. $10 for youth. 
Refreshments, licensed event and snacks available. 

Fabulous silent auction to support MIYF. Art by WILL Millar and CDs by all performers available for sale. Portion of CD and Art sales to benefit MIYF. Visa & Mastercard will be available for CD & Art sales. 

As of August 10, 2011, this show is in danger of being cancelled due to low ticket sales.  

Please come out and help to support events such as Sport's days, Bikathon, track & field, drop-in dodge ball/basketball, the Soccer program and Soccer Camps on this island.  Let's keep these events available for your children, friends, neighbours and grandchildren to enjoy.

The Mayne Island Conservancy Society has launched a two year Community Stewardship Program to increase and expand our community’s knowledge of the diversity of species on the island and to assist local landowners who wish to undertake specific stewardship measures.

MICS is looking for a dynamic and energetic person to fill a 7 month stewardship coordinator position.  The successful candidate will be coordinating the volunteer training activities, school programs, workshops, outreach to the public and landowners as well as, designing an interpretative program for Henderson Community Park.

Introduction to the Night Sky - Sat Aug 20


Learn about what lurks in the night sky and the wonders that await your discovery! David Lee will guide us in this journey at Dinner Bay Park.

David is a well known amateur astronomer and an advocate of public outreach in astronomy and science. He is a member of the Royal Astronomical Society, Victoria Centre. His photographs have been published in Sky News, Sky & Telescope and on various space related websites. He has been the website editor for the Victoria Centre and is DaveXX of the "Royal Astronomical Society of Daves".

Plan to come early and join in the fun! Croquet, Boules and a scavenger hunt at 7:00 o'clock on as we wait for dusk - Bring a blanket and a picnic!
