Movie Night, Angry Inuk: Fri Oct 27

The MI Conservancy and the MI Library join in presenting NFB’s Angry Inuk (1 hour 22 minutes).

In her award-winning documentary, director Alethea Arnaquq-Baril joins a new tech-savvy generation of Inuit as they campaign to challenge long-established perceptions of seal hunting. Armed with social media and their own sense of humour and justice, this group is bringing its own voice into the conversation and presenting themselves to the world as a modern people in dire need of a sustainable economy.

Agricultural Hall, Friday, October 17, 2017 7:30 pm. Admission by donation, free popcorn. For further information please contact David Chase maynechase@yahoo.com.

UPDATE OCT 16: It's been pointed out that there are 2 dates on this post. My *guess* would be that Fri October 27 is the actual date, but cannot be 100% sure because both dates were submitted to MayneNews. October 17 is not a Friday, whereas Oct 27th is. To be sure, email the contact person for this event, David, email address above. -- JT.

Giambori: Oct 21 & 22

On October 21st and 22nd we will be back playing Piano Quartets. This time we will have an English Violinist, a long-time colleague of Chris’s who visited Canada and Mayne Island last year when she was on holiday. We convinced her to come back and play. Daphne Moody , notable English violinist had her own quartet for more than 25 years; the Eberle Quartet.

David Gillham and Chiharu will be absent as they will be in Germany recording and so we will not have Chiharu to share the piano duties this time. Two enormously difficult masterpieces Brahms G minor Piano quartet and Faure Piano quartet will be shouldered by your Elisabeth.

Eric Wilson will again manage to squeeze himself away from his life at UBC and his busy playing schedule to take part!

At the Vet’s; 390 Navy Channel Road. Tickets $25, available at Farm Gate Store, Home Hardware & Happy Tides.

For further information please contact Chris Redsell chrisredsell@shaw.ca.
